Chalgrove Association for Life-Long Learning, or CALL for short, was set up to promote learning of all kinds designed to appeal to as wide a range of people as possible.
CALL was run by a group of people who live in the village. We were developing some of the ideas that were put forward in the Village Plan of 2010. The Village Plan highlighted the need for more opportunities for life-long learning within the village. CALL was set up in 2011 to address this need with the aim of providing a broad programme of events designed to appeal to as many people as possible. The list below gives an idea of the range of topics we covered. For more detailed information please click here.
Most of our events were one-off taster sessions - to introduce people to something new - although we also organised a number of follow-up sessions when there was sufficient interest in a topic. The format of our events was flexible and included talks, demonstrations, panels of experts and interactive fun sessions.
We aimed to use local speakers wherever possible and hoped that by attending these events people would get together to start up a new interest group - thus expanding the opportunities for life-long learning within the village itself - or discover one of the many groups that already exist in the local area.
In June 2014 the original committee decided that it was time for some 'fresh blood' to take up the reins. If anyone is interested in doing this, all information relating to CALL's activities and organisation will be stored in the Parish Council's archive room and can be accessed by contacting The Clerk to the Council: info@chalgrove-parish.org.uk . We would like to thank everyone who supported us over the years and especially all our presenters.
