Brook Maintenance

The High Street arm of the Chalgrove Brook is a really healthy stream, but it does occasionally get choked with various water plants, including Water Mint and reeds. Some water weed is no problem; Water Crowfoot and Brooklime tend to be fairly easy to manage, but some do need to be pulled out when they are at risk of overwhelming the stream. 

CWaCS working parties have spent time removing overgrowth to allow sunlight to reach the water, and provide clear access for fish. We always leave the plants on the riverbank for a few days, as the plants are likely to be teeming with invertebrates, and this gives them a chance to get back into the water. It's a mucky job, and sometimes very hard work, but it is very rewarding!
